Tigers, Robertson Blank Twins 1-0
Wednesday, July 18
- The Tigers have been involved in only two 1-0 games this season, and they have come in the last two meetings games against the Twins.
- With Minnesota’s 1-0 loss loss to Detroit last night, Cleveland (6-4) becomes the only team in baseball to have a winning record against the Tigers this season.
- Detroit’s .604 winning percentage is the highest in either league. Boston (.602) is the only other Major League team with a winning percentage of at least .600
- Boston leads MLB in wins with 56. Detroit, Cleveland, and Los Angeles (AL) are tied for second with 55.
- Detroit is a season-high 19 games over .500.
- The Tigers (55-36) continue to hold a one-game lead over Cleveland (55-38) in the AL Central.
In Cleveland last night…
Ryan Garko hit a pinch-hit, two-run, game-tying homer in the ninth inning, and then delivered the game-winning single in the eleventh as the Indians recorded their 28th come-from-behind win of the season as well as their 15th last at-bat win in 2007, 6-5 over the Chicago White Sox. Garko has homered in three of his last four games. Bobby Jenks started the bottom of the ninth with a two-run lead but lost it before he retired a batter. It was the fifth blown save of the year for Jenks, and his third in his last seven appearances. The loss marked the 12th time this season Chicago led in the seventh inning or later but failed to win.
Saw the Tigers in Seattle last weekend. My co-author is a Detroit native and, as you can imagine, a huge fan of all things Detroit. She’s there now and plans to catch a KC game this weekend. Are you the same Kincaide that wrote the Red Wings book? I bought it for my uncle last year (he’s a Bruins fan but loves all things hockey)…
