Det v Bos Saturday, July 7

First pitch in 16 minutes, but probably a few more.  If they say first pitch in Detroit is 7:05 (which is what they say it is tonight) first pitch actually comes at 7:08.

I don’t even know the match-up for tonight.  Is it Bonderman’s turn?  Gotta go read me some Game Notes.

Have there been two bigger wins for the Tigers than the last two?  Had they lost to Cleveland Thursday they would have been 3-7 for the season against the Indians and you just can’t have a slate like that against the team you are battling for first place.

And I’ll be honest with you.  I was worried that Boston, bringing the most wins in the show to town last night, would sweep the Tigers over the weekend.  Now, at least I know that won’t happen.  How about the seven innings of three-hit ball from Andrew Miller in his 7th MLB start and the Granny and the five RBI by Thames.  Nice move by Terry Francona to walk Sean Casey, who’s hit one HR this year, to pitch to Thames who has eight.  That’s why they pay them the big bucks…

So the Tigers were back in first place by .002 over the Indians when we woke up this morning.  Right now, the Tigers are in second place again, half a game back of the Indians who won in Toronto this afternoon nine-to-something.  I might know the score if I could have seen the game on–ahem—mlb-dot-tv, but you know.  I saw highlights on the CBS Sportsbreak during the golf telecast and I swear Cleveland scored all nine of their those runs on solo homers.

Chicago, outscored 32-14 in the doubleheader loss to the Twins last night, beat Minnesota 3-1 today so go figure, etc.

Seattle beat Oakland for the second game in a row, 4-0 was the final today, so heading into the Detroit-Boston game tonight, the Tigers lead the Wild Card race by 2.0 games over the second-place Mariners.

Time to turn on the game and see who’s pitching and who’s batting.

UPDATE:  The start of the Tigers telecast is being delayed by the local Fox affiliate until the Angels-Yankees game is over.  I hope the Angels-Yankees game don’t go 18 innings.  This is garbage.  We don’t give a flip around here about either of those clubs.  It’s not like they are in our division, after all.  Unbelievable.  It’s 2-0 Boston in the first and the game is not on TV here in Detroit.  What idiots!

What a game yesterday! Extra innings wins are always huge, and good to see the bullpen looking strong.

Detroit/Boston is definately the series of the weekend. If hte Tigers can win today and pull the sweep, it’s a prefect way to go into the All-Star Break.
